Professor Efetov Konstantin Alexandrovich – the Head of the Department of Biochemistry.

Born on18 July, 1958 in Simferopol in a family of doctors.

Biologist, biochemist, Doctor of Biological Sciences since 1994, Candidate (Ph.D.) of Medical Sciences since 1986, Professor since 1995, the Academician of the Crimean Academy of Sciences since  2002, the Honoured Master of Sciences and Engineering of Ukraine since 2004, the Chairmen of the Crimean Biochemical Society since 2006, the member of  the Central Council of the Ukrainian Biochemical Society since 2006, the Vice President of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Crimea since 1997, the member of the Council of the European Lepidopterological Society  (2005 - 2009),the member of editorial boards of the scientific journals: “Таврический медико-биологический вестник” (“Taurida Biomedical Herald”)  and “Entomologist’s Gazette” (Great Britain).  In 1975, having graduated from school with gold medal, he entered the Crimea Medical Institute and graduated from it with distinction. In CSMU he has been working since 1981. Since 1992, he has been working as the Head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and since 1999 he has been the Head of the Department of Biochemistry.

His scientific interests include molecular immunology, evolutionary biology, biosystematics. With the help of spectral methods he proved that the conformity of human immunoglobulins changes in malignancies. He was the first to use peptides and proteins of insects for the study of human proteins under normal and pathological conditions. He opened new scientific direction  – monoclonal immunosystematics making possible to assess evolutionary interaction between species through the study of their proteins with the help of monoclonal antibodies.

Described 7 new genera and 11 subgenera of species. Opened 28 new species inhabiting Japan, Korea  Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Myanmar  (Burma), New Zealand, India, Russia, Kyrgystan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Hungary. Reported his best scientific results in many international congresses and symposia in Finland (1992), Germany  (1993, 1997, 2003), Czech Republic (1994), Spain (1996), Great Britain (1996), Belgium (1998), Austria (2000, 2012), Denmark (2002), Italy (2005), France (2006), Luxemburg (2011). In 2004 he initiated international symposium “Biology, Phylogeny, Molecular Biology and Genetics Zygaenidae” held at the Crimea State Medical University, in which scientists from Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Iran, Ukraine, France and Japan took part.

Author of 350 scientific works including 20 monographs and 12 patents for inventions. Under his guidance 1 post-doctoral and 2 doctoral (Ph. D.) theses were defended. At present, 2 post-doctoral and 5 doctoral theses are being written under his guidance. Efetov’s scientific works have been cited in 9 languages (English, Hungarian, Spanish, Italian, German, French, Japanese) 640 times in 230 publications of scholars from 25 countries of the world.

The last discoveries of Efetov K. A. in the field of medicine, art and history are reflected in the books «Шокирующая тайна Сикстинской капеллы» and «Das schockierende Geheimnis der Sixtinischen Kapelle» (“The Shocking Secret of Sistine Chapel”), as well as the publications in the magazine «Химия и жизнь» (“Chemistry and Life”) became very popular in the Internet and were included on the list of questions of the international competition «Что, где, когда?» (“What? Where? When?”).

Laureate of State Prize of the Crimean Republic (1996), Laureate of Prize of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea (2000), the Laureate of the Prize of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea (2008). He is awarded with the Honorary Diplomas of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of Autonomous Republic of Crimea (1998), the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea (1998, 2002), the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine (1998). For his achievements in the fields of biology and medicine, International Biographical Center (the United Kingdom) and American Biographical Institute (USA) awarded Professor Efetov K. A.with four gold medals: One Thousand Great Intellectuals Medal (2002), Outstanding Europeans of the 21st Century Medal (2003), International Scientist of the Year ( 2003), American Medal of Honour (American Biographical Institute, USA, 2004). He is represented in the biographical reference books "Contemporary Who’s Who" (USA) and "Outstanding Europeans of the 21st Century" (Great Britain). In honour of K. A. Efetov, scientists of Austria, France, Ukraine, and Russia named 3 biological species (Etroga efetovi Richter, 1994; Zygaenoprocris efetovi Mollet et Tarmann, 2007; Chrysartona efetovi Parshkova, 2007) and a subgenus of living organisms (Efetovia Mollet, 2001). Efetov  К. А. is also the scripter of hymn, the author of flag and the co-author of coat of arms of the Crimea State Medical University named after S. I. Georgievsky.
