Councurso medico 2006

DATE : 25TH & 26TH MARCH 2006

VENUE : CULTURAL HOUSE


Category a (1st & 2nd course)
9.00am: Preliminary Round
Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ’s)
Each group was given 100 questions to complete within 45minutes.
Based on highest scores obtained, 5 teams qualified for the final rounds.
10.00am: Break
Participants were recessed for 2 hours while the organizing committee proceeded to Dom Kultura for further preparation of the following events.
12.00pm: Opening ceremony
The arrival of the Guests of Honor and the judges were welcomed. The Dean of International Medical Faculty of Crimea State Medical University officiated the event with a welcoming opening speech. He congratulated the organizing committee and expressed his gratification upon everyone who participated in the event. The Master of Ceremony, Vinoth Viknesh, then announced the qualifiers and begun with the rounds.

 

Round 1 (You’ve got mail!)
In this round participants were given a choice of 15 envelopes of which they had to choose 1 out of it. Each envelope contained 5 questions randomly based on anatomical systems such as Respiratory, Urogenital, Cardiovascular, Digestive, Endocrine, Sensory Organs and Nervous. Out of the 5 questions, 3 were multiple choice orientated and 2 were Viva questions from the honorable judges, which were directed to each team on an impromptu basis of which points were rewarded by final decisions of the judges based on preciseness of their answers. Each teams were given 2 minutes to answer the 3 multiple choice questions chosen.

Teams were once again asked to choose randomly from a 15 variant selection. Each variant consisted of a Microsoft Power Point presentation which was composed of a graphical image and multiple choice questions regarded to it. The questions were classified upon main subjects of the medical syllabus such as Gross Human Anatomy, Histology and Medical Biology. Participants were required to complete the task within 3 minutes.

 

Round 3 (Hi 5 mania)
This round was subdivided into 5 segments:

The 1st segment, Blast From The Past, was based on multiple choice questions regarding various aspects of the medical history. In this round the participants could opt for an option to use an additional aid which was a 50:50 choice of answer, of which 2 incorrect answers were removed. Lesser points were awarded for questions answered with the above mentioned aid.

The 2nd segment was called Anoma. In this segment, teams were asked to match the 5 corresponding pathological anatomical anomalies of the human body to its respective name. Each team was to match the 5 graphical images in a time of 2 minutes.

 

The 3rd segment was called Holes. This segment was based on practical skills. Each team was given a skull and was asked to name 15 foramens present in the skull. They were given miniature flags with the names of the foramens and were asked to place them in their corresponding points. Each team was allocated 3 minutes to perform the task. The judges were then invited to inspect and grade the performance of each team. Points were awarded based on every correct match.

 

The 4th segment, Speed Wins, was based on a series of multiple choice questions. The teams were asked to answer 15 questions in a short period of time. Each question was given 25 seconds. This event tested skills of participants to answer questions in tensed circumstances.

The 5th segment was called Word Puzzle. The teams were given 7 alphabets and were asked to construct medical terms within the given period of time. Judges were asked to select 3 out of the 7 alphabets for each team and the remaining 4 alphabets were selected by the respective teams. They were allocated 3 minutes to form as many medical terms as possible. The judges were then asked to grade the validity of the formed words.

The event ended on a congratulory note with the announcement of the winners of the day. Team 239, Team Saje-saje Aje! and Team Yasva I emerged champions of this category. The participants were reminded to attend the following day’s event to receive their respective awards.

Day 2 : 26th march 2006

Category b(3rd & 4th course)

Participants were required to complete the task within 3 minutes.

Teams were allocated 3 minutes to perform the task. The judges were then invited to inspect and grade the performance of each team. Points were awarded based on the method by which the bandage was tied and its fulfillment of its purpose.

The 4th segment, Speed Wins, was based on a series of multiple choice questions. The teams were asked to answer 15 questions in a short period of time. Each question was given 25 seconds. This event tested skills of participants to answer questions in tensed circumstances.

The 5th segment was called Word Puzzle. The teams were given 7 alphabets and were asked to construct medical terms within the given period of time. Judges were asked to select 3 out of the 7 alphabets for each team and the remaining 4 alphabets were selected by the respective teams. In category B, participants showed a steep competition with 2 teams coming in with tied results. They were fairly given questions from the judges in order to break their tie. Teams Sigma and WXM Complex battled for the 1st and 2nd placing, while Teams Playlife and Intel braved for 3rd and 4th placing. The results were truly astonishing as Team Sigma emerged as Champions, followed by Team WXM Complex as the 2nd place winners, and Team Intel as the 3rd place winners.

During the event, the members of the audience were given equal chance in participating in answering several bonus questions directed to them by the committee and judges. The questions varied upon subjects and themes. Full participation from both audiences and participants proved the success of the event.

Concurso Medico 2006, ended with the prize-giving ceremony by Pro-Rector V. I. Belaglasov, Dean of International Medical Faculty, A. D. Sakhaltuev. The winners of each category were awarded with hampers, certificates, cash prize, phonendoscopes, tonometers, and food vouchers from local cafe’s, which was kindly sponsored by Putrajaya Cafe and 777 Cafe.

On a spontaneous note, the Dean took the stage and announced the success of this never-before organized event, and congratulated the organizing committee on a job well done. He also suggested that the event run on an annual basis and that the event gives more incentives and motivations to the students, who partake in the event which includes a bonus mark in the exams for students as a form of encouragement for their educational process.

Following that, the Malaysian Student Council president, Mugilan and MIC club Ukraine president, Selva Ganapathi was called upon to present the guest of honors and judges with souvenirs as a token of appreciation.

With that, the event drew to a close with a brief photo session of winners of both categories.

The organizing team wishes to congratulate the champions of Concurso Medico 2006, and the participants for the amicable show of sportsmanship and cooperation.
